Over fourty Turkish and German decision makers from politics, economy and science met at the Villa La Collina, at Lake Como in Italy for this event, in order to discuss mainly about the current relations between Germany and Turkey, focusing on the role and influence of media in this context. Among these decision makers were Mehmet Akarca, Chief Advisor to the President of Republic of Turkey and General Director for Press and Information, Mahir Ünal, Deputy Chairman of Justice and Development Party (AK Party) and Chairman for Publicity and Media, Martina Fietz, Deputy Government Spokesperson - German Government, as well as many representatives from politics and media from both countries.
The main topics of the event were the German-Turkish media landscape, the perception of the two countries in German and Turkish media, the challenges of classic journalism due to the social media.
The focus of the workshop was on the relevance and influence of the media, the causes and consequences of the different perceptions and a comparison of the media landscapes from a technical point of view. Speakers and commentators discussed topics such as diverse and independent media landscapes, one-sided or objective reporting, the economic challenges, and the global challenges of classic journalism in the digital age.
This workshop made a decisive contribution to the networking of political and media decision-makers, who agreed that enhanced dialogue and exchange should take place in the future, especially through such events.
