124 Imams, who will be send to Germany to work with the Muslim communities there, participated at the event. The seminar prepared the religious teachers for their work in Germany with basic cultural knowledge.
The training provided an orientation for living and teaching in Germany as well as answered questions regarding the residence. Expectations, hopes and concerns of the Imams were discussed too. The program consisted of four elements: Politics, religions in Germany, German values and economy, migration, education and media and finally practical knowledge for everyday life.
The seminar focused on dealing with the socio-political environment in Germany. The participants considered questions like:
The dialogue of religions – How do I behave as Imam in dealing with representatives of other religions? Which common projects can be developed?
The Image of Islam – How does the public, politics and media react to the work in the mosques? How can prejudices be eliminated?
Public outreach as Imam - How to work with different association, the youth and women? What is the day of the open mosque in Germany?
The school and education system in Germany.
After an introduction about the work of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and the presentation oft he curriculum by the advisors the intensive seminar started. Methods like interactive lectures were employed. At the end of each block the participants engaged in a discussion.
