The objective of the workshop is to get to a better understanding of the legal concepts for a sustainable management of soils in Africa. The role of appropriate tenure rights to enable sustainable management should be analyzed. Furthermore, it should be discussed whether and to what extent additional provisions in international law could be beneficial and whether an African agreement could be justified. The ultimate objective of the workshop is to enable an effective implementation of the SDG target of a “land degradation neutral world”, in particular in Africa.
