What we do

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) is a political foundation active throughout Germany and abroad. While our headquarters are in Berlin, the foundation is represented internationally through 111 offices across 80 countries. The foundation originated from the Society for Christian Democratic Educational Work, founded in 1955, and was named after the first Federal Chancellor of Germany, Konrad Adenauer (1876-1967). His name is synonymous with the democratic reconstruction of Germany, the firm alignment of foreign policy with the trans-Atlantic community of values, the vision of a unified Europe and an orientation towards the social market economy. His principles continue to serve as our guidelines and his intellectual legacy is embedded in our devotion to promoting freedom and dignity for everyone. While we are, therefore, politically affiliated with the Christian Democratic Union of Germany, we operate both financially and organizationally independent from the party.

KAS cooperates with governmental institutions and local civil society organizations to foster social justice and democratic freedom. Amongst our central objectives are the facilitation of interfaith relations, a social market economy, the rule of law, a democratic multi-party system, and ecologically sustainable solutions.

To achieve these goals, we value continuous dialogue in the national and international arena and encourage constructive exchanges between members of different cultures and religions. KAS emphasizes its close cooperation with local partners to provide adequate support and develop long-term networks.
