2nd workshop within the KAS-Martens Centre Discussion Club 2017 series

Debate training

On June 19-21 Kaunas hosted the second session of the KAS-Martens Centre Discussion Club 2017 - a multi-part series of seminars and workshops organized by the Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies together with Belarus country office of Konrad Adenauer Foundation, and funded by the European Parliament.

The main aim of the session within the series was to teach the participants of the Club how to consctruct a full-lenght speech, how to build a good argument, what techniques to use and how to take different roles in a debate. In order to practice their skills, the participants were able to take part in a competative debate which was evaluated and summarized by providing tips for futher self-improvement in public speaking situations.

The second part of the session was devoted to the topic of "The contradictory nature of identity and the manipulation of great stories". A lecture by Lithuanian philosopher, professor of philosophy and Head of the Department of Philosophy and Social Criticism at Vytautas Magnus University, Gintautas Mazeikys on this topic was given. The lecture was followed by the lively debates on the topic.
