Neue Sicherheitsherausforderungen für Europa – Welche Rolle spielt Deutschland aus Sicht der Baltischen Staaten?

We were proud to organise a delegation trip of Parliamentarians from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania to Berlin.

The main goal of the delegation trip was to discuss a new security architecture in Europe after the attack of Russia on Ukraine.

In meetings with representatives of the German Bundestag, European Council on Foreign Relations, German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP) and more the delegation had the opportunity to exchange different political views on the threats that Russia may provide to the Baltic states and Europe, as well as the role of the German Bundestag in strengthening the Eastern flank.

The Baltic states were represented by Riina Solman, Member of the Committee for EU Affairs, Member of the Committee for EU Affairs, Andres Metsoja, Deputy Chairman of the environmental committee from Riigikogu of the Republic of Estonia. Irma Kalniņa, Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Hosams Abu Meri, MP and member of the Working group to promote Cooperation with the German Bundestag; Chairman of the Council of Vienotība, Uģis Rotbergs, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for European affairs and Member of the Defense Committee Internal Affairs and Corruption from Saeima of the Republic of Latvia. Laurynas Kasčiūnas, Chairman of the Committee for National security, Žygimantas Pavilionis, Chairman of the Committee for Foreign Affairs, Radvilė Morkūnaitė-Mikulėnienė, Chairman of the Committee for European affairs from Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania.

The delegation had the pleasure to discuss these topics with Dr. Christian Mölling, Deputy Director of the Research Institute; Head of the Center for Security and Defence, Prof. Dr. Norbert Lammert, Chairman and former President of the German Bundestag, Dr. Gerhard Wahlers, Deputy General Secretary and Head of Department European and International Cooperation Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung e.V. as well as Dr. Jana Puglierin, Head, ECFR Berlin Senior Policy Fellow, European Council on Foreign Relations, Knut Abraham, MdB Rapporteur on the Baltic States for the CDU/CSU group Committee on Foreign Affairs and Tobias Winkler, MdB, Rapporteur on the Baltic States for Committee on European Union Affairs and the Committee for Foreign Affairs, Roderich Kiesewetter, Member of Parliament (Deputy Chair Parliamentary control body, Committee for Foreign affairs, Committee on European affairs), Jürgen Hardt, Member of Parliament (CDU Chair Committee for Foreign affairs, Deputy Committee on European affairs), Thomas Erndl, Member of Parliament (CSU, Deputy Chair of the Committee for Foreign affairs, Spokesperson of International affairs and Security of the CSU group).
