NAMIBIA MEN FOR GENDER JUSTICE (NMGJ) HOST A SECOND NATIONAL MEN’S CONFERENCE

The four days conference was an initiative to address the prevailing gender based violence (GBV) in Namibia. The conference brought together different stakeholders countrywide representing different institutions keen to share notes and views on how to reduce and tackle GBV successfully.

On 11-13 March 2020, Namibia Men for Gender Justice held a National Men’s Conference under the THEME “MEN AS POSITIVE ROLE MODELS AGAINST GBV” in Ondangwa. The purpose of the conference was to discuss Gender Based Violence (GBV) and look into possible measures to prevent it. Addressing the conference, Reverend Nangula Kathindi from the Anglican Church, stated that “Brave men who are positive role models in our society need to face GBV head-on”. The conference was attended by 200 participants from 14 regions including representatives from the regional authorities, law enforcement agencies, churches, youth organisations and traditional authorities. Conference recommendations where shared with the participants to help in the implementation at local level.
