KAS Nigeria in collaboration with the Office of the Speaker of the House of Representatives and NILDS is organizing a three (3) day National Security Legislative Reform Retreat.

​​​​​​This retreat will focus on addressing national security priority issues stated in the 9th House of Representatives Legislative Agenda as well as specifically the following six bills that are on the floor of the house, drafted on the basis of the KAS National Security Overlapping Mandates Survey. These bills are:

  • Armed Forces Act (Amendment) Bill, 2021

  • Police Act (Amendment) Bill, 2021

  • Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Act (Amendment) Bill, 2021

  • Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act (Amendment) Bill, 2021

  • National Security and Civil Defence Corps Act (Amendment) Bill, 2021 [2003 & 2007]

  • Customs and Excise Management Act (Amendment) Bill, 2021.

The retreat will enable the leadership of the House, security related Committee Chairmen, and sponsors of the respective security bills to have a better understanding of the development, philosophy and link between the bills. This will ensure collective understanding of the objectives of the six bills before they pass the second reading. The National Security Legislative Reform Retreat is part of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung’s support to the Security Sector Reform in Nigeria. This program is funded by the Federal Foreign Office of Germany.
