This year, KAS Palestine is once again one of the main partners of the Palestine Digital Activism Forum 2020, organized by 7amleh – The Arab Forum for Digital Rights.

From March 23 to March 27, a unique program on the subject of Palestinian digital rights will take place at various locations, including Ramallah, Gaza and Haifa. Together with more than 60 specialists, journalists, human rights defenders, activists and technicians, a platform will be created to discuss the difficulties and challenges of defending Palestinian digital rights, the use of media and the implications of digitalization.

In the framework of panels, workshops and virtual lectures, the PDAF 2020 provides a space for the exchange of ideas and experiences and the joint development and improvement of the digital media sector in Palestine.

About PDAF

7amleh – The Arab Center for the Advancement of Social Media started working on the Palestine Forum for Digital Activism since 2017 and it comes as one of the most important pillars on which 7amleh works annually, which aims to:

● Providing a platform to discuss the challenges that face the Palestinian civil society to protect Palestinian digital rights and digital activists working on the Palestinian cause in a positive and constructive manner.

● Providing a space for exchanging different experiences and expertise in order to develop social media activism inside and outside Palestine, and to face the serious challenges and threats faced by digital activists locally.

● Linking the work of local grassroots organizations and movements with their international counterparts with the aim of benefiting from experiences and cooperation to find solutions to the dilemmas they face.

 About 7amleh

7amleh – The Arab Center for the Advancement of Social Media was established in 2016 and works since then to enable Palestinian and Arab civil society to practice digital advocacy, through building professional capacities of Palestinians to advocate for their digital rights, supporting the development of effective public campaigns. 7amleh strive to achieve these aspirations through focusing its projects and initiatives in three main areas/pillars: One of the few organizations focused on the digital rights of Palestinians, 7amleh’s team of digital rights experts, researchers, advocates, trainers, and activists work across Jerusalem, Gaza, the West Bank and Israel in cooperation with local and international partners to protect digital human rights.

Training – Capacity Building: by training civil society organizations, grassroots and youth movements, male and female activists in all areas in Palestine to strengthen skills in new media, online campaigns, improving their digital presence and digital security.

 

Advocacy: by focusing on advocating the protection of digital rights as human rights, including the right to Internet access, digital safety and privacy, freedom of expression and opinion, freedom of association and organization in digital networks, through advocating in a group of forums, publications and coalitions in which 7amleh participates. The center has recently initiated to form the Palestinian Digital Rights Coalition within its endeavors to instill complementary efforts at work in this field.

 

Campaigns: Plan and manage advocacy and awareness campaigns for community based organizations and frameworks on various issues that intersect with 7amleh work.
