About us

Welcome to the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung!

Freedom, justice and solidarity are the guiding principles of the work of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS). KAS is a political foundation, which is close to the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU). As co-founder of the CDU and first German Chancellor, Konrad Adenauer (1876-1967) combined Christian-social, conservative and liberal traditions. His name stands for the democratic reconstruction of Germany, the anchoring of foreign policy in a transatlantic community of values, the vision of European unification and the orientation towards the social market economy. His intellectual heritage continues to be both our task and our obligation.

Through our European and International cooperation, we are committed to ensuring that people can live self-determined lives in freedom and dignity. We make a value-based contribution to ensure that Germany lives up to its growing responsibility in the world.

We want to encourage people to help shape the future in this spirit. Through more than 100 offices and projects in over 120 countries worldwide, we make an independent contribution to the promotion of democracy, the rule of law and the social market economy. To secure peace and freedom, we support ongoing foreign and security policy dialogue and exchange between cultures and religions.

At the heart of our work is the human being in his or her distinctive dignity, rights and duties. For us, they are the starting point for social justice, liberal democracy and sustainable economic activity. By bringing together people who accept their social responsibility, we develop active networks in politics, business and society. Our political knowledge management improves the chances of shaping globalization in a socially just, ecologically sustainable and economically efficient manner.

We work in partnership with state institutions, political parties, civil society organizations and selected elites. Through our goals and values, we want to continue to deepen Political Cooperation both regionally and globally, particularly in development policy. Together with our partners, we contribute to an international order that enables every country to develop in freedom and self-responsibility.

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in Albania:

In Albania there is a targeted orientation on accession to the EU, a clear commitment to European values and standards and a great willingness to reform in the economic, political, social and rule-of-law sectors.

A core element of the cooperation of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in Albania is the cooperation with the Democratic Party of Albania, under the leadership of the party chairman, Lulzim Basha. Another central point of cooperation is the support of the Albanian democracy. The aim is to make the institutions more efficient in its working methods and to professionalise the work of stakeholders and the administration.

The opening of accession negotiations with the EU means that the Albanian legal system must be modernised and brought into line with EU law. It was also agreed that a genuine market economy would be established and that the democratic system would be further consolidated. The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung is carrying out measures with lawmakers, academics and rule-of-law actors in order to achieve compliance with the accession conditions.

A critical analysis of the communist past is being done in order to consolidate the constitutional foundation of the state and to contribute to a just society.
