Discussion
Details
On April 13, 2021 students at the University of Latvia participated in an online discussion with the German Ambassador to Latvia, Christian Heldt, and the Latvian ambassador to Germany, Inga Skujiņa. The discussion was organized by the Konrad-Adenauer Stiftung Baltic States in close cooperation with the Department of Political Science at the University of Latvia.
The Ambassadors of Germany and Latvia introduced students to the daily life of an ambassador, explaining the challenges and benefits of working in the diplomatic service. Students at the University of Latvia were particularly engaged in the discussion, inquiring the ambassadors about the details of working as an ambassador. Furthermore, the students also asked questions about ongoing events in international politics, including the relationship between Latvia and Germany, which the ambassadors regarded as positive.
The active participation of students proves that the young generation of Latvians is interested and ready to participate in politics. While the discussion had to end after an hour and a half, the students were engaged to continue the discussion even longer.
Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Baltic States has a long history of collaborating with the University of Latvia, organizing various events such as seminars and conferences. This cooperation is important to promote the values Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung stands for: freedom, justice, and peace.
