Dialogue Program - KAS Fellows´ Meeting 2013

The fellows of the KAS represent an important pillar of the KAS country programs in China. All year round, the Chinese fellows of the KAS are included in the dialog programs of the foundation offices in Beijing and Shanghai.

German-Chinese Symposium on Urbanization

In cooperation with the People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries the KAS/Beijing organized a symposium on urbanization. Representatives from politics, science and from civil society discussed in the city of Xuzhou the challenges and opportunities posed by the current urbanization process. Experts consent that the urbanization - the declared goal of the Chinese government - will have a profound impact on the economic and social structure of the country within the next few years.

The association of the growing economies of Brasil, Russia, India, China and South Africa represents 40 percent of the world’s population and, as of now, 25 percent of the world’s gross domestic product. Nevertheless, the chairman of the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, Elmar Brok, doesn’t see the so-called BRICS states as competitors for Europe. “I am relatively relaxed by the potential threat of the BRICS for Europe”, Brok said at an event organized by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in Berlin.

Gemeinsam mit der Deutschen Außenhandelskammer veranstaltete die Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Shanghai einen Vortrag im Rahmen des monatlichen Kammerabends der AHK. Gastredner des Abends war Prof. Dr. Eberhard Sandschneider, Otto-Wolf-Direktor der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Auswärtige Politik und Politikprofessor an der FU Berlin, der über den relativen Abstieg Europas und die Verschiebung der Gewichte in der Welt sprach.
