The Sino-German Dialogue on the Social Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities has been held annually in November since 2023.

A dialogue platform for shared learning and mutual understanding

The Sino-German Dialogue on the Social Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities is a regularly held bilateral exchange platform bringing together representatives from civil society, academia, politics, and business from China and Germany. Its focus is a comparative exploration of concepts, structures, and practical experiences in inclusion work in both countries. The dialogue connects scholarly perspectives with practice-oriented contributions and places particular emphasis on the active involvement of persons with disabilities themselves, as well as the organizations that represent their interests.

Why this dialogue is necessary

Enabling persons with disabilities to participate equally in society is a central social policy challenge in both Germany and China. Despite differing political and social frameworks, both countries face comparable questions – such as access to education, the labor market, political participation, and accessible physical and digital spaces. The dialogue provides a space to learn from each other, highlight good practices, and critically reflect on different approaches. It is guided by the principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

Continuity and contribution of the event series

Since its launch in 2023, the Sino-German Dialogue on the Social Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities has established itself as a continuous forum that deepens professional exchange over the long term and builds lasting networks. In addition to bilateral experience sharing, the format strengthens networking among Chinese stakeholders and supports the transfer of international experiences into local contexts. The Konrad Adenauer Foundation regards the dialogue as a contribution to a more inclusive society, where accessibility and participation are understood not as marginal issues, but as responsibilities for society as a whole.
