Asia’s Perception in Europe - Foundation Office China
Workshop
Details
How is Asia perceived in Europe? Has the media shaped the common picture about Asian countries? What media imagery exists and how does this influence our perception? These are only few of the questions discussed at an international workshop organised by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, in cooperation with the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) and the Qinghua University. At the workshop the first research results of the project “Asia in the Eyes of Europe” were presented.
The regional programme Politics Dialogue Asia/Singapore of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung supports the research project “Asia in the Eyes of Europe” carried out by the ASEF. In this project, scientists from 8 European countries (Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Italy, Romania, and Great Britain) focus on the trans-national perception of Asia in the European public, media, economy and politics. The project aims at deepening the understanding of Asian and European actors (public, media designer, business representatives, and political decision-makers).
Thomas Awe, director of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung representative office in Beijing, introduced the activities of the KAS in Asia with respect to the action field media – particularly against the background of current developments in China.
