Event reports
The scholarship programme of KAS | Shanghai provides financial and ideational supports to talented SUIBE students. As part of the programme insights into the challenges for further economic development of the Greater Shanghai Region are given through study trips to Chinese and international companies. Furthermore KAS Shanghai provides a personal development workshop.
This year 61 students applied for the programme. The students were asked to write an essay on one of the given topics: “Aging Societies — creating a new intergenerational relationship”, “Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone and its Economic and Financial Opportunities to Foreign Investors and Industrialists” and the future of economic governance in China and “Don't forget the country side — the future of China's rural areas in China's next wave of urbanisation.”
34 candidates were invited to an interview with staff members of KAS | Shanghai and SUIBE teachers, to explain in detail their findings on the chosen topic. They had to answer questions on the work of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in China and on the political and economic perspectives for China, too.
20 applicants were awarded with a sur-place scholarship. After the interviews an awarding ceremony took place, during which, Dr. Peter Hefele, director of the KAS | Shanghai, handed over certificates to the students.
