On the 15th of February 2017, KAS office in Yaounde, in collaboration with PAPNCC (Parliamentarian Network for Climate Change), REPAR (parliamentarian Network for the sustainable management of Ecosystems) and Globe (Global legislators’ organization) organized a discussion forum about the Paris Agreement of COP 21, the pertinence of climate policies and the challenges and opportunities for Cameroon in this context.
Senators and parliamentarians from different regions of Cameroon attended the bilingual meeting (French and English), showing their interest in collaborating with KAS for the creation of a discussion platform to encourage new developments in climate friendly energy projects. Furthermore, the idea of organizing a day dedicated to climate action and to create opportunities to reinforce institutional capacities related to this action was raised. ONACC (Cameroon Observatory for Climate Change) could play a major role becoming a model in terms of climate policy in the sub-Saharan part of the continent.
The discussion was led by Dr. Jean Martial Bell, director of REPAR and by the Honorable Awudu Mbaya Cyprien. A next meeting is scheduled for end of March of this year to discuss future plans of action.
