FIRST LATIN AMERICAN FORUM FOR URBAN GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE

In its first edition, the forum was held in São Paulo. Aiming to promote debate about the importance of green infrastructure in the cities of Latin America, experts from the region presented successful case studies and discussed possible ways of cooperation. The meeting was held during the Expo 2014 TeCobI. Representatives of the private sector, members of public entities, experts and students attended the event. Some of the major contributions can be found below.

THIRD INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ADAPTATION TO CLIMATE CHANGE

The Conference had a prominent participation of international experts on environmental issues and worked as a starting point of the new phase of activities of the KAS´ "Regional Programme on Climate Change, Environment and Energy Security in Latin America". Bringing together more than 300 scientists, politicians and representatives of different public and private entities around the world, the "Third International Conference on Adaptation to Climate Change" prompted the debate about the current and future consequences of global warming in different areas.

Europa ist bei Klima- und Energiepolitik weltweit Vorreiter, vor allem Deutschland als Hochindustrieland mit seiner Energiewende findet internationale Aufmerksamkeit. The Konrad-Adenauer Foundation supports the 15th CONOSUR RIO (Gathering of the Southern Cone International Relations Students and Alumni, 2014). It is a forum of South American countries, created in order to promote integration among South American students of International Relations.

The 19th Conference of Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change took place last November in Warsaw and was attended by 194 countries, several NGOs and various environmental organizations, resulting in significant new decisions.

The first solar energy plant installed on the roof of a private house in Rio de Janeiro has been inaugurated. All involved parties hope to inspire further micro-generators and to convince them of the advantages arising of power generation by means of photovoltaics.

First German-Latin-American Conference of Young Entrepreneurs in the Energy Sector

A cooperation with a promising future

The first German-Latin-American conference of young entrepreneurs in the energy sector on 10-11 October in Lima, organized by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in collaboration with the German Lateinamerika Verein e.V. and the consultancy Pflüger Internationale Beratung GmbH, has dealt with the issues of energy security and sustainable energy production in the context of the climate change.

No competitors, but partners to be

The BRICS states must first find their role in order to form a stable partnership with the EU

The association of the growing economies of Brasil, Russia, India, China and South Africa represents 40 percent of the world’s population and, as of now, 25 percent of the world’s gross domestic product. Nevertheless, the chairman of the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, Elmar Brok, doesn’t see the so-called BRICS states as competitors for Europe. “I am relatively relaxed by the potential threat of the BRICS for Europe”, Brok said at an event organized by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in Berlin.

Am 30. August und 3. September wurden am Obersten Wahlgerichtshof beziehungsweise im Mexikanischen Kulturinstitut Ergebnisse einer Studie über die gesellschaftlichen Wahrnehmung des umweltpolitischen Profils politischer Parteien vorgestellt, die auf Nachfrage der Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung vom Bürgerinstitut Costa Ricas durchgeführt wurde.

Auswirkungen des Klimawandels auf die costa-ricanische Wirtschaft

Die Zentralamerikanische Akademie (Academia de Centroaméricas) und die Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung hielten am 22. August eine Konferenz für Vertreter aus Wirtschaft und Politik über die Folgen des Klimawandels ab.
