The fate of the planet and human civilization has never been so tied to the future of cities. They are home to 50% of the world's population and account for over 70 % of emissions of greenhouse gases, which have contributed to the worsening of climate change.

Although sometimes perceived as the source of the problem, cities offer an ideal setting to find solutions that combine economic development, respect for the environment and quality of life.

On November 10, 2015 at Café Filosófico, in Campinas, São Paulo an event was held in partnership between CDP, CPFL Energia and EKLA-KAS, where representatives of about 30 Brazilian cities were present to accompany the launch of a documentary on the performance of Latin American local governments regarding climate change.

After the welcome words of the organizers and Mr. Jonas Donizetti, Mayor of Campinas, Professor José Marengo (INPE - National Institute For Space Research) gave a lecture on "Climate change and water scarcity in South America". The event was broadcasted via live internet streaming and, after the speech, there was a debate which also enabled the interaction of Internet users with questions and comments.

The video is available here.
