Mostar Security Forum 2024

Security Forum

The Konrad Adenauer Foundation organized in cooperation with the Hybrid Warfare Research Institute (HWRI) from April 25th to 26st, 2024 in Mostar, Bosnia And Hercegovina, a security forum on resistance to hybrid threats and on the transatlantic security architecture and Southeastern Europe. The security forum was attended by scientists, security experts, executive and legislative representatives from Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as representatives from NATO, EUFOR and the EU. They discussed the EU integration of the countries of the Western Balkans, the domestic and security situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, upcoming EU elections and the upcoming presidential elections in the USA.

Regional Development Forum - Education in Focus

In cooperation with the Croatian County Association, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation organized an event on "Education in Focus" in Zagreb on April 24th, 2024. The content of the forum was related to the application of new technological tools to the education system, as well as the improvement and adaptation of the entire system to new circumstances. Above all, this included digitization and artificial intelligence, which permeate all aspects of activity, including education. The conference was attended by county prefects and heads of county departments responsible for education, representatives of schools and educational institutions, as well as specialists in this field.

Society and Technology - Creative Industries and Artificial Intelligence

29th International Scientific Conference

Together with the Faculty of Croatian Studies of the University of Zagreb, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation organized the 29th International Scientific Conference "Society and Technology" in Zagreb from April 18th to 19th. The main theme of this year's conference was "Creative Industries and Artificial Intelligence". More than 100 researchers from 11 countries discussed, among other topics, the influence of artificial intelligence on creativity, the application of artificial intelligence in the educational context, the ethics and social implications of artificial intelligence, artificial intelligence within the framework of information and communication technologies, artificial intelligence in industry and commerce, regulatory and political aspects of artificial intelligence, artificial intelligence in the healthcare sector, analytical processing of data and information through artificial intelligence, communication strategies and media in the age of artificial intelligence, as well as interdisciplinary approaches to artificial intelligence.

Translatlantic Alliance – Challenges and Solutions

International Conference - 75th Anniversary of NATO Foundation and 15 Years of Croatia's NATO Membership

The Konrad Adenauer Foundation organized in cooperation with the University for Defense and Security "Dr. Franjo Tuđman" and the Hybrid Warfare Research Institute a security conference on the subject: "Transatlantic Alliance – Challenges and Solutions" in Zagreb on April 4th, 2024. The conference was attended by experts from governmental, military, diplomatic, and academic institutions. Participants reflected on the history of NATO, the fundamental role and values of the alliance, as well as the current tasks and challenges facing NATO today. They also discussed the current security situation in Europe and the world, with a particular emphasis on Russian aggression against Ukraine. Special attention was given to Croatia's path to NATO and its current role and contribution to the alliance and the European security structure.

"Smart Solutions" for Sustainable Urban Development

SMART CITIES 2024

In cooperation with the business magazine "Lider", the Konrad Adenauer Foundation organized a conference on "Smart Solutions for Sustainable Urban Development" in Zagreb from March 20th to 21st, 2024. Numerous Croatian city (Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik, Karlovac, Zadar, Varaždin, etc.) and business representatives as well as politicians discussed with administrative, marketing, and communication experts from Germany and Italy the urban planning of the future, best-practice examples (for example Split and Dubrovnik) of sustainable urban development through innovation, safe solutions and services for sustainable cities, financing of sustainable projects and green and digital transformation as well as the international experiences from Italy and Germany on this subject.

Building a philanthropy and fundraising culture in Croatia

Conference

Together with the Croatian County Association (CCA) and the Žuta točka Institute, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation organized a conference on „Building a philanthropy and fundraising culture in Croatia“ in Zagreb from March 19th to 21st, 2024. The conference is intended to contribute to building a successful fundraising culture in Croatia to improve the level of fundraising knowledge in society. The conference should also contribute to the creation of communication models (new and traditional media), contacting donors and solving complaints. During the conference, participants also discussed strategic planning tools for the successful governance of NGOs and the importance of transparent NGO financial reporting to the functioning of any non-profit organization.

Security in the Alpine Region

Round Table

The Konrad Adenauer Foundation, in cooperation with the NSi Institute "Dr. Janez Evangelist Krek" (IJEK) and the Young Alpine Region, organized a round table on „Security in the Alpine Region“ in Bled, Slovenia, from March 15th to 17th, 2024. During the two-day event, the president of NSi Matej Tonin discussed the security and migration challenges as well as geopolitical changes in the world with representatives of the Young Alpine Region, the NSi Youth Organization, and the Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies.

Seminar

Together with the Institute “Dr. Janez Evangelist Krek” (IJEK), the Konrad Adenauer Foundation organized from March 15th to 16th, 2023 in Bled an educational seminar for current and future women politicians of the NSi. During the seminar, representatives of the NSi women's organization discussed the role of women in Slovenian politics, Christian-democratic values in politics, and the importance of political communication with representatives of the NSi party leadership, including NSi party leader Matej Tonin.

15th Pučnik Symposium

Together with the Dr. Jože Pučnik Institute (IJP) of the Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS), the Konrad Adenauer Foundation organized on March 15th, 2024 in Slovenska Bistrica a celebratory event where representatives of the SDS party leadership and the founder of the Institute Gorazd Pučnik discussed the past political events in Slovenia, the upcoming European elections, and the risks associated with the rise of populism in politics with EU parliamentarians, representatives of the institute, and representatives of the universites.

Budapest Balkans Forum 2024

International Forum

Mr. Holger Haibach, Head of the country office of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation for Croatia and Slovenia, participated in the eighth edition of the annual conference on the Western Balkans in Budapest, from March 12th to 13th, 2024. Mr. Haibach reported during a panel discussion on the demographic challenges in Croatia and Slovenia as well as in the Western Balkan states. The forum was organized by the Hungarian Institute of Foreign Affairs (MKI) and the Office of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Hungary. Numerous experts and high-ranking politicians from the region discussed at the forum topics such as energy security and European integration of Hungary and the Western Balkans, coping demographic challenges, and the position of the Western Balkans in international politics.
