Do Campaigns Matter? - Foundation Office Baltic States
Event Reports
Communication expert Balint Porcsálmi from the Romanian UDMR discussed with the young politicians from the Baltic States, Poland, Ukraine, Norway and Germany the basics of political campaigning - selection of the candidate, designing of campaign material, direct voter campaign and GOTV-campaign. As a practical example served the 2008 CDU election campaign in Hamburg presented by the general manager of Hamburg's CDU, Gregor Jaecke.
As a practical tool for campaigning the participants of the seminar learned the basics of the use of mobile videos. Videos, filmed with smartphones, in the future will play a more and more important role in election campaigns. From the storyboard to the filming process the participants planned and filmed their own campaign videos. The workshop was led by KAS video journalist Josephine Landertinger Forero.
Mark Hauptmann (Kairos Communication & KAS fellow) spoke about the growing importance of the internet and social media in election campaigns. With examples from previous campaigns in the USA and Germany Hauptmann showed new trends and perspectives in internet campaigning.
During the seminar's workshop the participants were supposed to design and film a campaign video which should encourage youngsters to raise their voice and get involved in politics. The results can be seen here:
