The representative of the LGA in the State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Suraj Adekunbi, the Speaker of Ogun State Assembly, presented himself to the people.

Among the over 120 participants at this town hall meeting were traditional rulers, religious leaders, market men and women association, teachers, artisans, civil servants, members of different political parties, National Automobile Technician Association (NATA), and youths.

In his opening remark, Hon. Adekunbi stated the functions of a parliamentarian for the knowledge of his constituents. He pointed out that appropriation, legislation, and representation are the 3 functions, which the ordinary citizens are aware of, but still want them to act like people from the executive arm. Representatives of the people cannot provide infrastructures, health care, security etc. singlehanded. They can only lobby during the appropriation to get more shares to their constituencies. As the Speaker of the parliament, he has lobbied on many occasions to get the infrastructures in his community to be improved, which many participants at the town hall meeting could testify.

A traditional ruler, who first appreciated KAS and IMPACT for giving them such an opportunity to meet with their elected representative for the first time, suggested that a House of Chiefs be created, to give the chiefs a constitutional role in governance. The Speaker in reply reminded the participants that the issue of House of Chiefs was discussed at the recently concluded Constitutional Conference, and it has not been forgotten.

Another participant, who is the chairman of Nigerian Union of Pensioners in Yewa North, raised the issue about pensions not being increased appropriately, so the pensioners can live on it. This is similar to previous town hall meetings, where this issue had been raised as well.

Right Honourable Adekunbi promised to look into all the issues raised by the participants, and promised to have improvements on the roads, schools, hospitals, farm settlements and so on. He promised among many other things, to hasten the process of making rice plantation to be realized in a very short time. He reminded the participants that the issue of security is not what can be left alone for the Government; every citizen is a stakeholder, so everybody should be security conscious.
