Details

Nigeria’s South-South geopolitical zone has been persistently ravaged by rising cases of organized crimes including militancy, armed banditry, kidnapping, and cultism among others. While most of the crimes take organized dimensions, the strategies for tackling them are often discordant in nature. Persistent interagency rivalry and the lack of cooperation between security agencies and civilian citizens have hampered effective information sharing, coordinated surveillance, trust and confidence building.

Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) has continued to extend its peace building interventions by providing veritable platforms for productive dialogue and cooperation. To this end, KAS is bringing together the various stakeholders in security management in the zone to dialogue on ways of enhancing synergy in tackling crime and criminality in the South-South geopolitical zone.

The major objective of the seminar is to foster dialogue among leaders of security agencies towards promoting interagency collaboration, and also enhance the cooperation between security agencies and leaders of civil groups by building trust, confidence and information sharing. Similarly, it seeks to promote political and social tolerance by evaluating sources/causes of conflict and develop workable roadmaps for the formation of teams and peace committees within states and zones to continually promote sustainable progress in conflict prevention and resolution, and enhance security in the states within the zone.

The seminar is part of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung’s support to the Security Sector Reform in Nigeria. This program is funded by the Federal Foreign Office of Germany.
