National Security Legislative Reform Retreat for Senate and House of Representatives Security Committees

Support to the Security Sector Reform

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) in collaboration with the National Assembly and National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) and the office of the Clerk to the National Assembly is organizing a two-day National Security Legislative Reform Retreat for chairmen, deputy chairmen and members of security and security-related committees of the Senate and House of Representatives.

Details

This legislative retreat is aimed at addressing national security priority issues. Specifically, the retreat will be presented with the seven Bills that were drafted based on a survey of overlapping mandates which was commissionedt by KAS in 2021. The Bills include:

 

  • Armed Forces Act (Amendment) Bill, 2021
  • Police Act (Amendment) Bill, 2021
  • Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Act (Amendment) Bill, 2021
  • Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act (Amendment) Bill, 2021
  • National Security and Civil Defence Corps Act (Amendment) Bill, 2021 [2003 & 2007]
  • Customs and Excise Management Act (Amendment) Bill, 2021
  • ECOWAS Convention on Small Arms and Light Weapons, Their Ammunition and Other Related Materials (Ratification and Enforcement) Bill, 2021.

 

The Retreat is part of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung’s support to the security sector reform in Nigeria. This program is funded by the Federal Foreign Office of Germany.
