2020, das Jahr der weltweiten Covid-19-Pandemie, wird nicht nur als das Jahr des NATO-Beitritts in die Geschichte Nordmazedoniens eingehen, sondern auch als Jahr der erneut verschobenen EU-Beitrittsperspektive.

Zoran Zaev erneut als Ministerpräsident gewählt

Am späten Abend des 19. August meldeten die Parteispitzen von SDSM (Sozialdemokratische Liga Mazedoniens) und DUI (Demokratische Union für Integration) ihre Zustimmung zum Koalitionsvertrag, den die Parteivorsitzenden Zoran Zaev und Ali Ahmeti ausgehandelt hatten. Sie veröffentlichten auch eine Liste der von ihnen nominierten Ministerinnen und Minister. Am 30.08. schließlich wurde die neue Regierung vom Parlament mit 62 Stimmen bestätigt – 51 Abgeordnete stimmten dagegen. Die neue Regierung Nordmazedoniens zählt 19 Minister - sieben weniger als in der Vorgängerregierung, die ebenfalls aus SDSM und DUI bestanden hatte. In Schlüsselressorts gibt es personelle Kontinuitäten.

After an uncertain nip and tuck race with the VMRO-DPMNE, the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia (SDSM) declared victory at the early parliamentary elections 2020. The SDSM-led electoral alliance "We Can" gained 35,89 per cent of the votes, or 46 seats in the Assembly, while VMRO-DPMNE's electoral alliance "Renewal of Macedonia" attained 34,57 per cent or 44 seats. These results, published by the State Election Commission, are still unofficial.

Nach einem ungewissen Kopf-an-Kopf-Rennen mit der VMRO-DPMNE erklärte die Sozialdemokratische Union Mazedoniens (SDSM) ihren Sieg bei den vorgezogenen Parlamentswahlen 2020. Das von der SDSM angeführte Wahlbündnis „Wir können“ erhielt 35,89 Prozent der abgegebenen Stimmen bzw. 46 Mandate, während das Wahlbündnis „Erneuerung Mazedoniens“ 34,57 Prozent bzw. 44 Mandate gewinnen konnte. Diese noch immer vorläufigen Resultate wurden von der Staatlichen Wahlkommission veröffentlicht.

True to the motto that every crisis harbours an opportunity, the People´s Republic of China and the Russian Federation in particular are striving to gain sympathies in selected countries through rapid aid and its propagandistic staging, so as to highlight the superiority of their own systems and thus to expand their soft power. It would be naive to assume that their actions are guided solely by humanitarian considerations and international solidarity. What´s more, they are applying illegitimate methods such as fake news and disinformation campaigns as well.

Every Second Macedonian Doesn’t Believe in Media Independence

There is only little trust in the work of media in Macedonia: Every second Macedonian believes that journalists in their country can’t report independently. Furthermore, only one third of the population feels well informed about political topics. Generally Macedonians are informing themselves about politics from the TV. There is relatively high trust in the EU and NATO. These are the main results of a national representative survey commissioned by the Media Programme South East Europe of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS).
