After a brief tour to the center of Ramallah and the compound of the Muqata’a, the presidents’ official residence, where they visited the grave of Yassir Arafat as well, the group arrived at KAS Ramallah. There they were welcomed by Felix Dane, the KAS Resident Representative to the Palestinian Territories. He informed the visitors about the work of KAS Ramallah and about the different projects to support democracy and Rule of Law within the Palestinian Territories. These projects are currently shaped by the Palestinian plan to apply for United Nations membership this fall.

Afterwards, they had a meeting with Dr. Franziska Hagedorn, first Secretary for Political Affairs at the German Representative Office in Ramallah. She explained the work of the “German House for Development Cooperation” and talked about the cooperation between the various local German foundations and organisations.

After the presentation of the movie “The Iron Wall” they had the opportunity to discuss with Mohammed Alatar, director of the movie, and Wesam Al-Ahmed from “Al-Haq“, a Palestinian NGO for human rights. They discussed the historical responsibility of Germany towards Israel and the necessity for Germany to operate as a fair facilitator, accepted by both sides.

Thereafter, they went back to the center of Ramallah, from where they took their bus back to Jerusalem.
