In his opening speech, Rami Nasrallah, director of the International Peace and Cooperation Center (IPCC), emphasized the importance of the office opening as another important step towards the establishment of the Baader Youth Council as a stakeholder for Palestinian youths and as a future centre for political education for young adults. Maha Staiti, chairman of the Baader Youth Council, thanked the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Ramallah for the sponsorship and commented on the future projects of the BYC for the year 2008.

Following the official part of the event, it was possible to visit the new facilities and to exchange opinions concerning further steps. The new office in Ramallah enables the BYC to coordinate its activities more efficiently and gives young people the opportunity to work jointly on their projects.

The Baader Youth Council is an initiative of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in Ramallah and the International Peace and Cooperation Center Jerusalem. Its objective is to promote the role of young people in the democratic process, to develop skills of future leaders and to cut back gender barriers in order to support the building of a viable Palestinian civil society.

The members of the BYC are mostly students who come from all over the West Bank (Hebron, Bethlehem, Ramallah, Nablus and Jenin) and East Jerusalem. They are given the opportunity to expand their individual capacities through various workshops. The Baader Youth Council is funded within the framework of the programme "Empowering Democracy" by the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
