The only thing that both Palestinians and Israelis agreed upon is that: the only solution is to reach a final settlement to end the Arab – Israeli conflict. 81% of Palestinians and 58% of Israelis supported this track.

These are the results of the most recent poll conducted jointly by the Harry Truman Research Institute for the Advancement of Peace at Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey in Ramallah, which was supported by Konrad Adenauer Stiftung/ Ramallah, between December 11 and 16, 2006.

The main question will be: What is the base of such a solution. Is it two states solution?

60%of the Israelis and 49% of the Palestinians agreed upon the Quartet principles and the Road Map plan of action as the base to start negotiation.

47% of the Israelis and 43% of the Palestinians agreed upon releasing Marwan Bargouti as an important step to reach a final settlement.

The results of the joint poll are also very interesting especially because this poll has taken place in a very critical period in the history of the region, just before the Palestinian summit in Mecca.
