AIIA APRM EVENT POSTER

The South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA), in partnership with the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) and Development Reimagined, will host a side event titled "Mobilizing African Capital: Exploring Innovative Pathways Toward Affordable Finance for Industrialization" during the Joint 9th Session of the African Union Specialized Technical Committee (STC) on Finance, Monetary Affairs, Economic Planning and Integration and the 5th Session of the STC on Trade, Tourism, Industry and Minerals, taking place in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, from 20–24 July 2026.

The 90-minute interactive fishbowl session will bring together policymakers, development finance experts, capital market practitioners and researchers to explore innovative approaches to mobilising African capital for industrial development. Discussions will focus on reducing reliance on costly external borrowing, strengthening domestic and regional capital markets, improving sovereign credit outcomes, and enhancing the monitoring of Africa's financial systems to unlock investment opportunities.

The event aims to generate practical recommendations that will contribute to the Joint STC Outcome Framework and support Africa's broader agenda on domestic resource mobilisation, industrial financing and sustainable economic transformation.
