Working for peace and security: The SIPODI West and RAMP-BENIN programs with young people

One Hundred Women, Youth for Peace and Security » in Collines (Dassa-Zoumè)

The exploration of certain concepts, such as transformational leadership, enabled participants to reflect on their own impact and the challenges they face, while analyzing the social relationships that shape mediation. Particular attention was paid to radicalization and hate speech, with discussions on the mechanisms that fuel intolerance and violence. Strategies were proposed to mobilize young people in civic campaigns for peace and inclusion, and to reconsider gender roles in order to ensure equitable representation of traditionally excluded voices.

Working for Peace and Security with Young People – SIPODI & RAMP-Benin

The SIPODI Regional Programme and its partner RAMP-Benin continue their commitment to training young people on peace and security. The second stage of the One Hundred Women, Youth for Peace and Security programme took place in Dassa-Zoumè.

Held from 11 to 15 August 2025, the training brought together 25 young participants (60% men, 40% women). Discussions highlighted UN Security Council Resolutions 1325 and 2250, underlining the vital role of women and youth in peacebuilding in West Africa.

Key Highlights

  • Active Participation: Exchanges on mediation, the role of civil society, and the protection of civilians.

  • Transformational Leadership: Reflection on personal impact, prevention of radicalisation, and tackling hate speech.

  • Contemporary Challenges: How climate change exacerbates local tensions, equitable resource management, and the role of culture and spirituality in fostering social cohesion.

Lasting Commitment

At the end of the training, participants received certificates as a symbol of their dedication to peace. Initiatives such as the one in Dassa offer continued support to youth engagement in peacebuilding. SIPODI West remains committed to integrating young people into peace and stability efforts across West Africa.
