2nd KAS WOMEN IN SECURITY & FOREIGN AFFAIRS WORKSHOP 2026

“Women’s Perspectives for Global Security - COP31 Reflections”

(15.05.2026, Istanbul)

The accelerating climate crisis is reshaping the global security landscape - intensifying risks such as forced migration, resource scarcity, and geopolitical instability. Addressing these challenges requires inclusive approaches that integrate diverse perspectives, particularly those of women, who are both disproportionately affected and uniquely positioned as agents of resilience and innovation.

At our recent 2nd KAS Women in Security & Foreign Affairs Workshop 2026, experts from diplomacy, defense, academia, policy and media reflected on how gendered insights can enrich security responses to climate‑related risks. Discussions highlighted:

- The impact of conflicts in Iran and Ukraine on energy supply and markets, and the disruption of sustainability goals.

- The necessity of including women as stakeholders in decision‑making, not merely as vulnerable groups, especially in contexts of caregiving, migration, and resource scarcity.

- The urgent need to integrate Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agendas with climate policy frameworks.

- The overlooked environmental impacts of conflicts in the Middle East and beyond, and the responsibility of states to report emissions and damage within the COP31 framework.

Objectives moving forward:
• Strengthen women’s role in security policy decision‑making.
• Connect gender and security agendas with global climate risks.
• Promote international dialogue across policymakers, institutions, and academia.
• Develop actionable recommendations for multilateral forums.

This dialogue underscored that women’s perspectives are not optional - they are essential for building resilient, forward‑looking security strategies in times of climate crisis.

Let’s continue to amplify women’s voices in shaping climate and security agendas ahead of COP31.

A heartfelt thank‑you to all our distinguished speakers and participants whose insights and engagement made this workshop a true success.
