8th ANKARA SECURITY WORKSHOP 2025 “Türkiye’s Strategic Role in the Lead-Up to NATO’s 2026 Ankara Summit
The 8th ANKARA SECURITY WORKSHOP 2025 “Türkiye’s Strategic Role in the Lead-Up to NATO’s 2026 Ankara Summit” brought together leading national and international experts, academics, policymakers, and security practitioners to engage in strategic foresight on today’s rapidly evolving geopolitical landscape. Organized in cooperation with Başkent Üniversitesi Ankara, the workshop served as a valuable platform to exchange insights and strengthen dialogue on pressing security challenges.
Opening remarks were delivered by KAS Türkiye Director Dr. Ellinor ZEINO and Başkent University President Prof. Dr. Hakan ÖZKARDEŞ. We were honoured by the keynote address of H.E. Sibylle Katharina SORG, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany.
The workshop explored a wide range of pressing issues, including Türkiye’s role in shaping the foreseeable future of Syria, the rising importance of Türkiye for NATO ahead of the 2026 Ankara Summit, and the transformation of Türkiye’s defence industry from import to export and its impact on the regional balance of power. Participants also examined China’s rise and its strategic implications for Türkiye with particular attention to the future of NATO relations and the Alliance’s strategic adaptation in the years to come.
