A New Chapter in Strategic Partnership: Turkish European Security Cooperation
On 13 April 2026 in Ankara, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Türkiye, in partnership with TEPAV’s Center for EU Studies, convened a high-level dialogue bringing together senior policymakers, parliamentarians, and leading experts from Türkiye and Europe.
Set against a rapidly evolving and increasingly volatile security environment—marked by the ongoing war in Ukraine, escalating tensions in the Middle East, and shifting geopolitical dynamics across the Euro-Atlantic space—the discussion focused on a central strategic question: how can Türkiye and Europe translate political intent into tangible, operational cooperation?
Participants underscored that rebuilding trust within the Euro-Atlantic framework remains a critical prerequisite for deeper alignment. At the same time, there was broad consensus on the need to strengthen cooperation in key areas such as defence, deterrence, and industrial capabilities, while enhancing interoperability and coordination between NATO and EU structures.
With the upcoming NATO Summit in Ankara, the dialogue highlighted both the urgency and the opportunity for more concrete, coordinated action. Moving beyond declaratory commitments, the exchange emphasized pragmatic pathways toward implementation.
From strategic alignment to operational capability, the event marked an important step toward fostering a more resilient, credible, and forward-looking Türkiye–EU security partnership.
