Question: “How satisfied or dissatisfied are you – all things considered – with your current life?” Here: “very satisfied” + “satisfied” / “somewhat satisfied” / “fairly satisfied”. Figures in per cent. Surveys 1001, 1021, 1023, 1028, 1031, 1048, 1052, 1056 and 1057 conducted on behalf of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung.

Multiple crises have increasingly posed challenges for Germany and its citizens in recent years. Nevertheless, Germans' views of their own life satisfaction remain very positive: on average, four-fifths of Germans are satisfied or very satisfied with their lives overall.

Since 2018, Germans' life satisfaction has remained very consistent: the group of (very) satisfied people has remained at around 80 per cent. Only in spring 2024 does the figure fall briefly to 75 per cent – in eastern Germany, it falls to 68 per cent as early as July 2023.

On average, people in eastern Germany have a slightly lower level of life satisfaction than western Germans. Most recently, the proportion of (very) satisfied Germans in the west was 82 per cent, while in eastern Germany 73 per cent are satisfied or very satisfied with their lives overall (March 2025).
