As artificial intelligence and digital technologies reshape labour markets, connecting technical education with industry needs is becoming increasingly important.
The AI Masterclass brought together Master's students in computer science and electrical engineering at the University of Zambia for applied training in machine learning, data analysis, bioinformatics and embedded systems. Academic partners from Leipzig University and HTWK Leipzig led the two-week programme, combining lectures, practical exercises and project work.
Complementing the technical training, KAS Regional Programme Economy Africa and AHK Southern Africa organised a workshop bringing students together with representatives from German and international companies. The exchange focused on technical competencies, quality standards and working practices expected in the industry, as well as recruitment, remote work and opportunities for international cooperation.
By combining academic training with direct exchange with the private sector, the initiative highlighted the importance of aligning technical skills development with labour-market needs and expanding pathways into the international technology sector.
