Der aktuelle Ebola-Ausbruch in der Demokratischen Republik Kongo und Uganda wird bereits wenige Stunden nach der WHO-Notfallerklärung von gezielter Gesundheitsdesinformation begleitet. Unser Bericht analysiert die Narrative, Akteure und Dynamiken dieser Informationsmanipulation – von Biowaffen-Behauptungen über Verschwörungserzählungen bis hin zu angeblichen „einfachen Heilmitteln“ und antiwestlichen Narrativen. Die Analyse zeigt: Ebola-Desinformation ist kein neues Phänomen, sondern folgt seit Jahrzehnten einem wiederkehrenden Muster. Viele der heute verbreiteten Narrative ähneln früheren Kampagnen über AIDS, Corona oder andere Epidemien. Besonders problematisch ist dabei die Verbindung aus Angst, politischer Instrumentalisierung und wirtschaftlichen Interessen: Gesundheitsdesinformation ist längst auch ein Geschäftsmodell geworden. Der Bericht ordnet die aktuelle Lage ein, beschreibt typische Narrative und zeigt auf, warum gerade Gesundheitskrisen besonders anfällig für Desinformation sind und welche Gegenmaßnahmen Politik, Behörden und Medien jetzt ergreifen sollten.

This study provides one of the first comprehensive assessments of how South African newsrooms are adopting and using AI. The research finds that AI tools are already widely used for tasks such as research, summarisation, transcription, and drafting content, yet adoption remains informal and uneven across organisations. Most journalists reported receiving little to no formal training on AI, raising concerns about ethical use, accuracy, and the risk of declining public trust. The study highlights the urgent need for structured training, clear editorial guidelines, and the development of tools tailored to African languages and contexts.
