Gender and Transitional Justice in East Africa: Exchanging Experiences and Expertise

The conference on Gender and Transitional Justice in East Africa was jointly organized by the KAS' Rule of Law Program for Sub Saharan Africa and Strathmore Institute for Advanced Studies in International Criminal Justice (SIASIC). Other partners included; The International Nuremberg Principles Academy, Prosecuting Conflict- related Sexual Violence Network and Adélia Foundation. The overall objective of the conference was to bring experts together to explore ways forward to ensure women’s full participation in gender perspectives throughout transitional justice processes in East Africa.

Stakeholder Workshop: Gemeinsames Vorgehen gegen die Folgen des Klimawandels

Das Rechtsstaatsprogramm für Subsahara-Afrika organisierte in Partnerschaft mit dem UN Environment Programme (UNEP), der Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES), Consumer Unity and Trust Society (CUTS) sowie dem Africa Network for Animal Welfare (ANAW) eine zweitägige Regionalkonferenz in Nairobi. Hierfür kamen am 20. und 21. September 2016 Akteure aus dem ganzen Osten und Süden Afrikas zusammen, um gemeinsam über Konsequenzen und Chancen zu sprechen, die sich aus den UNEA2-Beschlüssen sowie dem Pariser Abkommen für Afrika ergeben. Annual Jurists' Conference

The Konrad Adenauer Stiftung in collaboration with the Kenyan Section of the International Commission of Jurists convened the 2014 Annual Jurists’ conference on the theme “Implementing Africa’s New Constitutions: Opportunities, Prospects and Challenges,” in Cape Town, South Africa between November 18th and 22nd 2014.

Annual Rule of Law Symposium

KAS partnered with the ULS to commemorate this year's annual Rule of Law week with a series of activities culminating into an Annual Rule of Law Symposium. The Symposium on the theme “Labour Rights in Uganda: Making Decent Work a Reality” brought together lawyers, judges, members from the academia, labour specialists, CSOs and workers unions representatives. The keynote address was by Mr. Francis Atwoli, the President of the Organization of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU.

STAKEHOLDERS’ CONFERENCE ON BUDGETARY CONTROL, CORRUPTION AND HUMAN RIGHTS IN AFRICA

KAS and NANHRI convened a Pan-African conference in Entebbe, Uganda to examine the nexus between budgetary control, corruption and human rights in Africa. The most important issue in the context of this conference was not the amounts spent, but rather how they are spent; who controls and monitors this expenditure; and how those responsible are held accountable. The conference brought together delegates from 15 African countries drawn from various sectors and was also graced by Dr. Gaby Schäfer, President of the Budget Control Institution of Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.

THEME: LE CONSTITIONALISME ET LA PRIMAUTE DE L4 ETAT DE DROIT EN OUGANDA : UNE REALITE OU UNE FAÇADE ?
