The failure of the Doha Round can hardly be ignored any longer. Still, an increasingly integrating world economy, documented both by intensifying global trade but also the growing number of bilateral and multilateral trade agreements, is in desperate need of a truly global economic governance and trade scheme designed to meet the challenges of our globalizing times.

Against this background, the KAS regional Social and Economic Governance Programme Asia (SOPAS) in cooperation with the Shanghai University of International Business and Economics (SUIBE) invite for a conference on Economic Governance Strategies in the Age of FTAs on 05 July 2013 in Shanghai. Participating in this event, a number of high ranking representatives from the most important actors in global trade will evaluate the obstacles and potentials of both existing and emerging trade regimes.
