"William Kunstler - Disturbing the Universe" Special Screening at the Law Faculty

The Rule of Law Program South East Europe of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung invites all interested to a special screening of "William Kunstler - Disturbing the Universe" followed by a discussion to be held at the Aula Magna of the Law Faculty.

Short description of the documentary:

William Kunstler, “the most beloved and most hated lawyer in America”, as he was named by New York Times, was the defender of the activist group against the war in Vietnam, known as the Chicago 8, and Native Americans’ in the conflict of Wounded Knee, or negotiator for the detainees in the Attica prison riots.

Seduced during their childhood by the justice-defender image, Emily and Sarah Kunstler, the two daughters of the famous lawyer, try to understand the complicated and strange path of their father, who became a lawyer for drug traffickers, criminals or terrorists.

Special guesst

  • Emily Kunstler is an activist and documentary filmmaker. She has produced, directed and edited a series of short documentaries including Tulia, Texas: Scenes from the Drug War (2003), which won the Best Documentary Short Film at the Woodstock Film Festival.
In 1999, Emilly Kunstler and her sister Sarah Kunstler founded Off Center Media, a documentary production company. Off Center exposes through mass-media the injustices in the criminal justice system. They directed and produced through their company the documentary William Kunstler - Disturbing the Universe, which premiered in 2009 at the Sundance Film Festival.

Emily Kunstler also worked as a video producer for Democracy Now!, an independent news channel.

The documentary will also be screened on Saturday evening starting with 19:00 at the Noul Cinematograf al Rezigorului Roman (Muzeul Taranului Roman).
