Application: Capacity training for youth-led CSOs in Ethiopia

Asset-Herausgeber

Background:

Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) is a publicly-funded, non-for profit German political foundation registered in Ethiopia as a “foreign organization” in accordance with the Civil Society Organizations Proclamation No 1113/2019. With offices in more than 120 countries, KAS promotes Democracy, the Rule of Law, Social Market Economy and Human Rights and fosters political and expert exchanges between Germany and its partner countries.

More than 60 percent of Ethiopia’s population is younger than 25 years old. The young generation’s desire to improve and contribute to the social and political development of the country finds its expression in a high number of youth-led civil society organizations (CSO) who volunteer in a wide array of sectors such as health, poverty, unemployment, climate change, the environment, peace, democracy, and conflict resolution.

An overall strength of those organizations is the level of dedication of their young members. Among the weaknesses is a lack of capacity to run the initiatives more sustainably, with greater impact, and how to better promote the organization’s interests as an input into the social and political system of Ethiopia in accordance with the Civil Society Organizations Proclamation No 1113/2019.

Objectives:

In a first initiative taking place at the end of this year, the KAS Office Ethiopia/AU wants to support selected Ethiopian youth-led civil organizations in improving some of their skills. To this end, the office wants to organize a two to three-day training that will focus on:

How to Write Well?

How to Speak Well?

Proposal writing and fundraising

Visibility/External communications

Monitoring & Evaluation

Knowledge Management

Promoting your interest

Eligible participants:

Interested youth-led Ethiopian CSOs that share the values of Democracy, the Rule of Law, Social Market Economy, and Human Rights can respond to the public call and apply to participate in the training. A maximum of 20 organizations may be selected. One person per CSO can participate. The requirement for this is that the director/leadership of the CSO is 35 years or under. In their proposal (1-2 pages in English), the applicants must show their CSO’s past activities in its respective area of work and explain where they face organizational challenges and how they hope the training will support them in better achieving their goals. Please also add a copy of your official CSO certificate.

Training:

The training will be held in English by the KAS Office Ethiopia/AU. It will also invite representatives of the Agency for Civil Society Organizations (ACSO), parliament, the Ministry of Women and Social Affairs, the media, international donors, and the private sector to participate as external speakers who can share insights and practical experiences. During the training, the participants will have several practical exercises, some of them ad-hoc, that will not offer time to prepare. The first training will take place in Addis Ababa in mid- or end of November. The KAS Office Ethiopia/AU will cover the travel costs for admitted participants from outside Addis Ababa.

How to Apply:

Interested youth-led CSOs can submit their applications in English to the following e-mail address: application.ethiopia@kas.de by not later than Friday, November 04, 2022 at 12:30PM. The application must be submitted in one single pdf document that is not larger than 5MB.
