From the 4th to the 8th of November 2026, mid-career and senior journalists from across Sub-Saharan Africa will gather in Mombasa, Kenya, for the Africa Investigative Journalism Lab, organized by Africa Uncensored and KAS Media Africa
The intensive five-day programme will equip participants with practical skills to develop, investigate, verify and communicate high-impact stories in the public interest. It responds to the growing importance of investigative storytelling, data journalism, open-source intelligence, digital verification and journalist safety.
Participants will progress from identifying promising story ideas and planning investigations to gathering and verifying evidence, analysing data and strengthening their storytelling. The programme will also explore how artificial intelligence can be used responsibly as a supporting tool for research, analysis and newsroom workflows, while emphasizing the need for editorial judgement and careful verification.
Sessions will cover source and evidence mapping, advanced online research, image and video verification, digital security, data analysis, ethical decision-making and storytelling across written, audio, video and digital formats. Guided by experienced facilitators, participants will develop their own investigations throughout the week and conclude the programme by presenting refined story pitches and concrete action plans.
The Lab aims to strengthen investigative journalism across the continent by supporting journalists in producing credible, engaging and socially relevant reporting.
