KAS Supports Parliamentary Leadership Retreat to Strengthen Democratic Governance

KAS, in partnership with the Parliament of the Republic of Namibia, will support the Parliamentary Leadership Retreat taking place from 3–7 August 2026 at the Swakopmund Hotel & Entertainment Centre. Held under the theme, "Strengthening Parliamentary Leadership for Inclusive Development and Participatory Democracy," the retreat will bring together Presiding Officers, Deputy Chairpersons of the Whole House, Chairpersons and Deputy Chairpersons of Parliamentary Standing Committees, as well as Political Party Chief Whips and Deputy Chief Whips. The five-day programme will focus on strengthening parliamentary leadership, constitutional and legal mandates, democratic legislatures, e-Parliament implementation, parliamentary diplomacy, research and oversight, budgeting, stakeholder engagement, leadership, and effective coordination within a bicameral parliament. Participants will also engage in breakout sessions, interactive discussions, and team-building activities designed to enhance collaboration and institutional effectiveness. KAS Resident Representative Anna Hoffmann-Kwanga will deliver remarks during the official opening, reaffirming KAS's commitment to supporting democratic institutions, good governance, and effective parliamentary leadership in Namibia. Through this partnership, KAS continues to contribute to building capable, accountable, and responsive democratic institutions that promote inclusive development and strengthen parliamentary governance in Namibia.
