Judiciary and legal professionals will explore the opportunities, challenges and governance considerations of Artificial Intelligence in the justice sector from 23–25 June 2026.
UNESCO Namibia, in partnership with the National Commission on Research, Science and Technology (NCRST) and Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Namibia-Angola, will host a three-day Capacity Building Programme on Artificial Intelligence and the Rule of Law for Namibian Judges and Legal Officers from 23–25 June 2026.
The programme will bring together members of the judiciary and legal fraternity to examine the growing role of AI in the administration of justice. Participants will engage in discussions on the potential of AI to improve case management, reporting systems, data accessibility, document management, transcription and interpretation services, and communication within the justice sector.
The training will include a needs assessment of the Namibian judiciary, presentations on innovation and technology solutions, and practical demonstrations of AI-powered tools. Participants will also explore critical topics such as AI ethics, judicial independence, cybersecurity, privacy and data protection, women's rights, AI governance in the judiciary, and the use of AI in evidence and decision-making processes.
The programme aims to strengthen the capacity of judicial and legal professionals to understand, evaluate and responsibly integrate emerging technologies while upholding the principles of the rule of law and human rights.
