Implications of Technological Advancement for SDGs
Digital technologies are transforming our ways of living in every sphere. Since 2018, the United Nations is closely examining how digital cooperation can contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. The core question is, how digital advancement can advance the debate on sustainability. KAS RECAP will invite key stakeholders in the local sustainability field in Hong Kong to discuss the key findings of the UN's report on the implications of digitalization for human development.

Carbon Markets and the Electricity Sector: Issues, Opportunities, and Priorities for East Asia

Regional Workshop on Emissions' Trading
Emission reductions in the electricity sector will be paramount if the Paris commitments of reducing global warming to well below 2 degrees Celsius are to be attained. Emissions trading systems (ETS) as a cost-effective instrument for emissions control are now being implemented or considered across a diverse set of jurisdictions in East Asia. KAS RECAP will hold a two-day workshop in Bangkok to discuss the carbon markets in the subregion.

Trade Conflicts and Energy Markets in Asia

UN Climate Finance & Sustainable Investing Conference 2019

Financing Sustainable Development / Investing for a Sustainable Future
UNESCAP co-organized with WGO a major UN conference, focusing on key Sustainability themes and Financial topics. UNESCAP sent their key representatives, including the Chief of Financing for Development Section, Macroeconomic Policy and Financing for Development Division to Hong Kong. Also, the United Nations invited key government officials globally and distinguished speakers/experts to participate in the event. With more than 40 international and local renowned speakers, the UN Conference fosters comprehensive dialogue among government officials, industry practitioners, scholars and NGOs to accelerate the paradigm shift in the sustainable investment. More importantly, this conference also aimed at facilitating changes in the decision making processes among investors and asset managers towards ESG investing. Through this established platform coupled with the network of the United Nations, extensive collaborations between institutional and private investors and project proponents are able to effectively engage among critical stakeholders towards the development of best practices for the development of Green Finance and Sustainable Investment.

The Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue on Sustainability and Digital Cooperation workshop, took place in Hong Kong, on September 12th, organized by KAS RECAP. The framework of the workshop was the recently published report by UN Secretary General’s high Panel of Digital Cooperation “The age of interdependence” https://digitalcooperation.org/, highlighting the rise of awareness coming from the UN Secretary General to consider how digital cooperation can contribute to the achievements of SDGs .

Der Workshop „Kohlenstoffmärkte und der Stromsektor – Anliegen, Chancen und Prioritäten für Ostasien“ fand vom 20-22 März in Bangkok statt und wurde in Kooperation mit der Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), der International Carbon Action Partnership (ICAP) und der Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (TGO) gehalten. Die Kernthemen, die diskutiert wurden, behandelten ETS und Kohlenstoffmärkte in Ostasien.

Umgang mit Disruption: Dimensionen der Digitalisierung in Europa und Asien

8. jährlicher Workshop über die EU-China Beziehungen in globaler Politik
Der 8. jährliche Workshop zu den Beziehungen zwischen der EU und China in der globalen Politik fand dieses Jahr in Singapur statt und beschäftigte sich mit Dimensionen der Digitalisierung, Disruptionen und disruptiven Innovation in Europa und Asien. Internationale Fachleute und Wissenschaftler präsentierten aufschlussreiche Arbeiten, in denen verschiedene Aspekte und Möglichkeiten der Digitalisierung in verschiedenen Wirtschaftssektoren in Europa und Asien hervorgehoben wurden. Der Workshop fand wie jedes Jahr im Rahmen des UACES Collaborative Research Network zu Beziehungen zwischen der EU und China statt und wird vom KAS-Regionalprojekt Energiesicherheit und Klimawandel in Asien-Pazifik (KAS RECAP) unterstützt.

Kampf gegen Abholzung

Neue Business Modelle für Kohlenstoffspeicherung in Wäldern
Die Abholzung von Wäldern ist nicht nur eine Gefährdung für die dort lebende Artenvielfalt, sondern trägt noch dazu immens zum Ausstoß von Treibhausgasen bei. Es ist ein großer Markt aufgrund der Abholzung der Wälder entstanden, doch gibt es greifbare Möglichkeiten um von einem Kampf gegen Abholzung wirtschaftlich zu profitieren? Neue Geschäftsmodelle wurden entwickelt um die Kohlenstoffspeicherung in Wäldern zu fördern. Der Workshop fand in Bangkok, Thailand, statt, und wurde von KAS Regionalprogramm für Energiesicherheit und Klimawandel in Asien-Pazifik und dem Potsdam Institut für Klimafolgenforschung organisiert.

Sustainable Development Policy: Globale Normen vs. Lokale Bedürfnisse

Dr. Francesch-Huidobro, Principal Consultant, Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, Regional Projekt Energiesicherheit und Klimawandel Asien/Pazifik, hat für Offizielle des Ministeriums für Öffentliche Verwaltung der Regierung Bangladeschs, die an einer Führungskräfteschulung in Hong Kong teilnahmen, Voträge über nachhaltige Entwicklungspolitik und Strategien gehalten. Dr. Francesch-Huidobro teilte ihre Expertise über die Herausforderungen, die die Vereinbarung von globalen Regerlungen im Bereich der Nachhaltigkeit und lokale Bedürfnissen mit sich bringen. Sie unterstützte ihre Vorträge mit Beispielen von Strategieenwicklungen aus den Sektoren Energiesicherheit und Klimawandel in Asien/Pazifik Raum.
