The fourth edition of "Sounds of Memory" concluded on Wednesday with a commemorative concert honoring the victims of the communist regime, held for the first time at the infamous Spaç prison camp.
52 years ago, the political prisoners in Spaç experienced a historic moment – the first and only uprising in this camp against the communist regime. For them, it might have been unimaginable that 52 years later, in the same place of terror and torture, we would hold a memorial concert in honor of their uprising and condemn the crimes of the communist regime.
Former prisoners of Spaç, politically persecuted people, organizers and representatives of the international community once again emphasized the need for Albanian society to deal with its totalitarian past.
The Konrad Adenauer Foundation will continue to support initiatives aimed at coming to terms with the past and building a democratic culture of remembrance – basic principles of our engagement in Albania.
The event was organised by Kujto.al, with the support of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, the EU Delegation to Albania and the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP).
