About the film:
The Spaç Revolt of May 21, 1973, entered Albanian history as one of the most dramatic events that shook the communist regime. For three consecutive days, the political prisoners of this camp, after nearly thirty years of oppression, raised the national red and black flag—without the red star, the symbol of dictatorship—amid the mountains of Mirdita.
This documentary is a tribute to all participants in that act of bravery, especially to the four executed: Pal Zefi, Dervish Bejko, Hajri Pashaj, and Skënder Daja. They, along with 6,000 other political prisoners executed by the regime, remain missing—without graves, without names, with their remains still unfound.
Albania’s historical memory will remain incomplete until Spaç is transformed into a living museum of persecution, as testimony to one of the harshest regimes Europe has seen since World War II.
