The goal of the conference is to examine a diverse range of issues regarding the relations of Belarus with its neighbors, including political and economic ties, cultural links, historical stereotypes, and interaction with the nationalities, confessions, cultural groups and NGOs that make up Belarusian civil society.

Papers should address the following issues:

  • How do Belarusians view their neighbors: cultural and historic stereotypes
  • Alone or together? Conflicting nation-building on the territory of first Rzeczpospolita in the 20th century
  • Belarus’ economy in a regional context: ‘Assembly Line’ or ‘Europe’s North Korea’?
  • Belarus and its neighbors: what is going wrong?
  • Is Belarus a failed state? Public policy choices and civil society roles from a regional perspective
  • Belarus: any chances for Europeanization?
Languages of the Conference: Belarusian and English

Conference participants are invited to send an application form and paper abstract (maximum 250 words) by e-mail to: conference@civicspaceinstitute.org.pl

Abstract submission deadline: November 13, 2011

Notification of accepted applicants: November 20, 2011
