At the opening of the 8th Adenauer Conference Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, Federal Minister of Defence and Head of the CDU, took part in a live-streamed discussion with the Chairman of Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation (KAS), Prof. Dr. Norbert Lammert, and Dr. Jana Puglierin, Head of the Berlin Office of the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR). They spoke about issues like the consequences of COVID-19, challenges for transatlantic relations and Europe’s role in a global strategic competition.

Die neueste Erhebung für 2020 wurde jetzt per Facebook-Livestream vorgestellt.

In her speech to the Konrad Adenauer Foundation on May 27th, German Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel, gave an overview of the foreign and security policy agenda of the German EU Council Presidency. This will be influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic and its serious consequences. Nevertheless, challenges that existed before the pandemic have not disappeared, but rather have increased as a result of the health crisis. Following the Chancellor's speech, experts discussed the self-defined goals and priorities of the German EU Council Presidency.

Eigentlich bietet Deutschland für das Lernen auf Distanz vergleichsweise gute Voraussetzungen: Neun von zehn Schülerinnen und Schülern haben zuhause einen ruhigen Platz zum Lernen und vier von fünf haben Zugang zum Internet und den entsprechenden Endgeräten. Das ist nicht überall auf der Welt selbstverständlich.

Deutschland erlebt im Zuge der Corona-Pandemie die schwerwiegendste Wirtschaftskrise der jüngeren Geschichte. Unverschuldet und unvorhersehbar gerieten Unternehmen im Frühjahr 2020 plötzlich in Schieflage, weil notwendige gesundheitspolitische Maßnahmen das Wirtschaftsleben mehrere Wochen praktisch zum Erliegen brachten – in Deutschland und weltweit. Seither ist auch der deutsche Staat gezwungen, dieser Notlage durch massive Markteingriffe, fiskalpolitische Impulse und große Hilfszusagen abzufedern. Ordnungspolitische Grundsätze spielen dabei kaum eine Rolle. Ökonomen warnen im Rahmen einer #digitaldiscussion, dass das Krisenmanagement der Bundesregierung unbeabsichtigte Folgewirkungen hat und die Prinzipien der Sozialen Marktwirtschaft überdehnt werden.

The World after Corona: Webinar for scholarship holders in Berlin

Chinese and Indian scholarship holders developed recommendations for policy and decision makers

From April 7-16 the Department Asia and the Pacific in Berlin organised a webinar for KAS-scholarship holders from India and China who are currently in Germany, on the topic “The World after Covid-19”. During two online live debates and several written tasks as well as an ongoing online discussion on the implications of the Corona-pandemic for Germany, for their respective countries of origin and the world in general, the participants developed recommendations for policy and decision makers. The outcome are recommendations for Germany, India and China. This will further encourage the participants to build on their created ideas and thoughts and level-up the set of recommendations to discussions on feasible policy frameworks and their implementation. This was the second meeting of the Asian group of scholarship holders in 2020, after a first meeting with the team in Hamburg in January.
