Official Opening of the representation of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in Athens - Foundation Office Greece and Cyprus

The opening ceremony took place at the new Akropolis Museum with more than 300 guests, 60 of whom are members of the Greek and the European Parliament. The opening speech was given by the Prime Minister Antonis Samaras where he emphasized Konrad Adenauer’s essential contribution in the reconciliation and unification of Europe. The first chancellor of the Federal Republic led the Germans after the Second World War to the unification of the European countries and set in this way the foundations of the European integration.
Hans-Gert Pöttering warmly endorsed the efforts of the Greek Prime Minister and his fellow-countrymen towards fighting the crisis, the implementation of the reforms and the raise in competitiveness. An important factor for getting out of the crisis is the restoration of trust amongst Europeans and mainly between the Germans and the Greeks. Basic aim of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in Greece is to encourage the political dialogue between Germans and Greeks and therefore stimulate a better understanding between the two sides.
