The aims of the dialogue programme were the presentation of the dual vocational training system in Germany, the discussion of possible concepts for Greece as well as the set-up of a Greek-German network.

After an introduction in Berlin, dealing with the German vocational training in general and the effective cooperation between the German Federal and States governments, companies and chambers as well as educational institutions, the guests from Greece could gather some practical experience in Stuttgart, Blomberg and Leipzig.

In Stuttgart, the Greek experts visited the Steinbeis Foundation’s headquarters, discussing the Foundation’s economic oriented approach on vocational training and the concept of the dual studies programme of Steinbeis University Berlin (SHB): Companies which want to solve a specific problem, use Steinbeis to find qualified graduates of the SHB. For their studies, the students work on this problem, instructed by both the company and the university, and eventually graduate on the basis of the problem solution. During this period of time, the company pays not only a salary, but also the tuition fees of SHB. The offer is therefore in great demand.

The Greek delegation was very interested in that approach. In Blomberg, the Greek experts visited companies and vocational schools. In Leipzig, the partner city of Thessaloniki, the delegation found out more about securing skilled labour, the training of trainers and opportunities for cooperation between municipalities, education centres, companies and chambers.
