Currently, Indonesia is still in the process of democratic transformation. Some principles, procedures and institutions that mark the democratization process are already evident. However, they are still artificial, not yet supported by a deep awareness of the nature and significance of democracy.
Public support is essential in a democratic system. Thus, in a democratic government, there must be a supportive society that fully realizes the meaning and importance of democracy. Democracy is not just the procedures and principles of governance, but also a value in life. The democratic system assumes the need for order and the existence of individual rights within each community. For the maintenance of a common life to be established in an orderly and peaceful manner, a democratic society requires a representative and constitutional government. These basic values need to be developed in today's Indonesian society in order to provide a solid foundation for democratic society and governance.
As a value, democracy is complex. Values education faces methodological obstacles in that learners often only know democratic values but unfortunately do not implement them. In schools, training in democratic values education requires its own approach and methodology as well as content that is still relatively unfamiliar to teachers at various school levels in Indonesia. Therefore, the Teacher Training for Democracy Education is very significant and urgent to be held.
